What
Kind of Person Are You Looking For?
When
placing or answering an ad, be as specific as possible when describing
yourself and your interests. Please, please, PLEASE... stay away
from stupid catch-phrases like, "I love moonlight walks"
or "I like to cuddle." Sure, you may like those things,
but does it REALLY describe WHO you are?
Don't
just say, "I like movies and going out for dinner." Ooh,
ahh... How original! Someone who likes EATING! Big Freakin' Whoop.
Even MY CAT likes eating. Who doesn't like eating? Well... there
was Karen Carpenter... but that's another story.
And
I don't care if it's been a long, long, long time... don't mention
sexual acts in the first e-mail! Unless, of course, you're on one
of those sites that encourage that sort of thing.
When
you're looking to meet someone, you're not just looking for someone
to walk hand-in-hand on the beach with or cuddle in front of a roaring
fire with or, for that matter, shag til the cows come home. You
want someone you're going to get along with on a day-to-day basis:
Someone who likes the same kind of foods you like, the same tv shows,
the same movies, etc. It makes life much easier that way.
For
me, the sense of humor is the most important thing. It's not enough
to say you're funny. Hell. This my sites are proof of that! I think
it's funny, a lot of other people think it's funny, but some folks
think it's "negative in a boring played out way." (Although
I personally think the person who said this thought it was funny,
too, until he read something that reminded him of himself.)
When
I had my ad online, I really got a kick out of these chuckle-heads
who would respond to my ad which said, "I just love Austin
Powers" by saying, "I hated that movie. I thought it was
stupid." Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there
is no way someone who thought that movie was stupid is going to
enjoy me putting my pinky to my mouth every time I have an "E-vil"
thought.
